Ashley Curry believes that a company’s greatest asset is its employees, and therefore great care should be taken in their selection. Curry has been brought on board to replace Leon Sizemore, EBSCO’s current corporate recruiter, when he retires in the future.

Curry’s accounting background, garnered from a seven-year career with Miliken Co., led to a 25-year career with the FBI. After retiring from the FBI, Curry spent two years with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security before receiving an offer to join EBSCO Industries as corporate recruiter.

In anticipation of his retirement, Sizemore was asked to begin recruiting his own replacement, and he said he knew immediately that he would approach Curry. Curry and Sizemore, long-time friends, had worked together in the past as agents with the FBI and were also neighbors. “I have known him for many years, and I thought he would be a good fit,” Sizemore said.

Curry felt confident taking over Sizemore’s position, saying that he too knew Sizemore well, knew his quality of work and trusted his guidance. On Sept. 12, Curry came on board with EBSCO and since has been vigorously learning Sizemore’s important role in the EBSCO family.
Curry’s role in EBSCO will include seeking out potential candidates for key positions such as general management and upper level sales. He will also help find highly specialized job candidates — such as engineers with expertise in the outdoor brands arena. “My job is to seek these people out, contact them and determine if I feel they would be a good fit for the job,” Curry explained. “If I think they are a potential match, I then present them to the company where the final selections are made.”

Curry is carefully studying Sizemore’s role with EBSCO and beginning to learn the company in general. “I see a lot of longevity, which speaks highly of both EBSCO and EBSCO’s recruiting. EBSCO is a great company to work for. … I am very happy to be here.”

Recruiting for a company the size of EBSCO requires an extensive knowledge of all divisions and their particular specialties. “Really and truly, a company’s greatest asset is its employees. It is important that we recruit and select the best and the brightest,” Curry said. “EBSCO grows because of its people.”

So far, Curry is extremely impressed with the quality of employees at EBSCO. “EBSCO cares about its employees and goes to great lengths to acclimate new hires.”

In his spare time, Curry spends time with family and is active in his church. He also enjoys “tinkering on old cars,” golfing, hunting and fishing. He stressed the importance of having a life outside work and strives to make time for his family and hobbies. Curry and his wife reside in Birmingham and have a son who is a dentist in Tampa, Fla., and a daughter who is an attorney in Atlanta, Ga.

Curry is confident in his abilities and foresees himself as a long-term EBSCO employee. He paused for a moment, glanced at Sizemore and said, “I sure do have some big shoes to fill, though.”
