Consorting With the Library Purchasing Collectives
EBSCO taps former EIS Blue Team sales rep Mike Harwell
to ramp up consortia sales effort

Mike Harwell, a 12-year veteran of EBSCO Information Services (EIS) sales, recently became director of consortia and sales development, North America for a new consortia sales department within EIS.

Starting June 1, Harwell hit the ground running, working with existing consortia as well as positioning EIS to act as a consortium itself in working with publishers, when this best meets the needs of the customers and EIS business strategies.

Harwell’s responsibilities include developing sales and marketing strategies for selling EIS products and publisher content to library consortia, while developing and maintaining business relationships with new and existing library and consortia customers.

Harwell came to EIS in 1995 as a sales representative from a career in sports marketing. In many ways it was a complete career shift; however, many of the skills he had garnered promoting baseball proved useful in promoting and selling e-journals, databases and other information services.

“I was looking for a new opportunity and that’s what I found with EBSCO,” he said. “I’ve been really lucky. I’ve been fortunate to work with a great team.”
