Ian Best Named General Manager of ISS

In December 2007, Ian Best was named general manager of Information Systems and Services, taking over for John Fitts after he retired this past December.

Best joined EBSCO in 2002 and has a long track record in the subscription services business, having previously served as chief technical officer and chief information officer of RoweCom/Faxon/Dawson, among others.

“As former CTO/CIO, I understand the challenges in providing the level of support, both in terms of IT infrastructure and in bringing Web applications to market, for an international organization associated with the subscription business,” Best said. “In addition, my four years of consulting experience have  provided me with the opportunity to evaluate the IT needs of a number of different businesses and implement systems and solutions that were appropriate for them.”

In just over five years with EBSCO, Best has distinguished himself with his experience and knowledge of the industry. He most recently led the project team that successfully rewrote and implemented the new EBSCONET® system. Completed on time and within budget, the new system has been widely accepted and considered a success.

As he takes on the more challenging role of providing IT support corporate wide, Best is optimistic about the future. “John created a solid ISS group that has effectively supported our business divisions for many years. Building on this foundation, continuing to create the future vision for ISS, introducing new systems and solutions as EBSCO continues to grow is an exciting opportunity,” he said.
