Summit’s High Places Wins Outdoor Channel Golden Moose Award

Summit Treestands’ “Summit’s High Places” television hunting show was recently honored with a Golden Moose award for Best Graphics and Effects at the annual SHOT (Shooting, Hunting, Outdoors Trade) show in Las Vegas, Nev.

An estimated 2,500 outdoor industry leaders attended the 8th annual Golden Moose Awards show held at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel. The celebration featured performances by country music stars Kevin Fowler and Terri Clark, and a concert by rock music legend Ted Nugent.

“The Golden Moose Awards honor the very best in Outdoor Channel’s programming lineup,” said Outdoor Channel Executive Producer Lloyd Bryan Adams. “This is the eighth year for the awards, and with our commitment to best-in-class programming, the competition is getting stiffer and stiffer each year.”

Commonwealth’s National Sales and Marketing Director, Shane Jones, stressed that winning the Golden Moose, and being nominated for three more, shows that the company’s productions are on the right track.

“It’s very satisfying to be on equal footing with shows like ‘Realtree Road Trips’ and Ted Nugent’s ‘Spirit of the Wild,’” he said. “It’s important to have cutting-edge graphics and design, and everyone should understand that creating those graphics is a lot more involved than just going on a hunt. You’ve got to tell the whole story, and graphics aid the viewer in understanding the hunting situation. It takes foresight, communication and talented people working hard to do their best to tell that story in a manner that satisfies the viewer.”

Responsible for creating those award-winning graphics is Commonwealth Creative Director Phillip Core. While Core declined to give away his secrets to creating award-winning graphics, he said that five seconds of animation can take days or weeks of intense work to produce. Core created his first graphics for the weather segment of a local television affiliate, and in addition to ‘High Places,’ now works with ‘Rebel’s People Who Fish’ (which was a Golden Moose runner-up for best graphics this year), ‘Big Water Adventures’ and ‘Knight & Hale’s Ultimate Hunting’ television shows, as well as numerous television ad campaigns. He recently won five Telly awards for graphics, animation and TV production.
