EBSCO’s College and Graduate Scholarship Program
At EBSCO Industries, Inc. there are seven values that define our organization; one of these values is “People.” We care about the people who make up our organization; we also care about the families of
employees. Each year, the company offers a number of scholarships to the dependent children of
employees. While existing college students are eligible, high school graduates moving towards their
freshman year in college are the focus of this benefit. Graduate school students are not eligible. Winners can expect four years’ support if they
maintain the criteria for retaining the scholarship. Scholarships are awarded based on the following
criteria:
- Scholastic performance
- Evidence of self‐determination and independence
- Economic capacity
All of the scholarship applicants will be judged based upon the first two of the above‐listed criteria. Of
the scholarships awarded each year, several will include the family’s “economic capacity” as a factor.
There is an application and approval process; below, you will find the details of our program.
What does the EBSCO scholarship offer?
Each scholarship pays 60% of the tuition costs, plus $400 for books and supplies, with a maximum award of $4,000 per year.
How often does the company offer scholarships?
The process begins in December of each year with a letter from Corporate Human Resources to all US employees. The applications are typically due in early April.
How many scholarships does the company offer at a given time?
This number can vary year‐to‐year but, typically, there are approximately ten new scholarships
awarded each year.
What are the requirements to qualify for the scholarship?
- The applicant student must be the dependent child of an active EBSCO employee with
two or more years of service at the time of application – or – the dependent child of a
retired or deceased employee.
- The applicant student must be single; marriage is a transition from dependence to
independence and therefore renders the applicant ineligible.
What are the requirements for maintaining a scholarship once earned?
Scholarship assistance will be maintained for up to four years, provided that all of the following
conditions are met:
- The student’s grade point average must remain at 2.8 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher.
- The student must maintain full‐time status with the college/university.
- The student must remain single; marriage will render the student ineligible to continue.
- The parent must remain employed in a full‐time position with the company.
How do I apply for the scholarship?
To apply for the scholarship, you will need to supply the following forms/information:
- A completed EBSCO Scholarship Application Form
- An official and original ACT or SAT score form affixed upon the official high school transcript.
- An official and original college transcript, if applicable
- Letters of recommendation from two responsible citizens of your community (one of
these letters should be from someone who has supervised the student in part‐time work if
possible). Two letters must be received or the application will not be considered.
- (Optional) A completed Economic Capacity Information Sheet. Several of each year’s
winners will have their “Economic Capacity” as a factor in the decision to award. As a
result, completion of this form is optional.
