Simpson Fills Unique Niche at S.S. Nesbitt & Co.
Selina Simpson, vice president and account manager, S.S. Nesbitt & Co.
For the past 25 years, Selina Simpson, vice president, account manager and one of the founding principals of S.S. Nesbitt & Co., has worked in the insurance industry. For much of that time, Simpson has specialized in insuring collegiate residential developments. She has spent many years focused on developing innovative, cost-effective risk management solutions for college and university dormitories and apartment communities. As a result, her unique experience is nationally known.

S.S. Nesbitt is one of only a handful of agencies with expertise in this type of insurance, and Simpson is the one person at S.S. Nesbitt who has the know-how to manage these accounts.  Steve Nesbitt, President and General Manager of S.S. Nesbitt, explained that Simpson’s work in insuring collegiate residential facilities is truly unique.

“What Selina does is different from what most people in the insurance industry deal with,” Nesbitt said. “Selina is recognized as an expert, and as such she works with attorneys, developers, contractors, financial professionals and university officers from across the nation. They all rely on her advice and comments when closing these multi-million dollar transactions.”

The CHF projects Simpson works on require telephone and e-mail consultations, exhaustive paperwork, hours of dedication, as well as confidence. “It is very challenging at times being a female from Alabama,” she said. “It is difficult to command respect through conference calls and e-mails.” Difficult, yes. But not impossible. Since the formation of CHF, Simpson has successfully closed more than 30 projects.

Simpson has been working with Nesbitt since the mid 90s. When Nesbitt formed S.S. Nesbitt & Co. in 2001, Simpson was one of the first people he hired. “I will always be grateful to her for agreeing to join our new agency when there was a great deal of risk,” Nesbitt said. But risk is not uncommon for Simpson and the employees of S.S. Nesbitt. Their business is helping clients such as CHF avoid risk, and their success is evidenced by the company’s growth and client retention.
